1/11/2010 · Step 1 - Pressure. Boiler pressure builds up in the system. The way to reduce it is to bleed the system by letting air escape. The boiler feeds a closed circulation system. By expressing air from the system you reduce the pressure in the system. You can then adjust the pressure level later by turning on the feed of cold water to the system.
Get A QuoteA New York Tech Explains. September 26, 2017. How a boiler works really depends on the kind of boiler you have. But the primary purpose of all boilers is to transfer heat to water. Basically, boilers work by heating water or producing steam that is then used to heat a home. But, of course, that's a barebones explanation of how boilers work.
Get A QuoteHeating on – boiler pressure between 1.5 and 2 bar. Heating off – boiler pressure between 1 and 1.5 bar. To increase boiler pressure – top up with water. To reduce boiler pressure – bleed your radiators. Check your boiler pressure once a month. Always use a registered engineer for any boiler repairs.

Get A QuoteTypical pressure for a residential boiler serving a two story home would show 12 psi cold, and less than 30 psi hot. Over 30 psi boiler pressure will cause the pressure relief valve to open. Typical operating temperature settings on a boiler call for a Low temperature (boiler cut-in) between 120 and 160 °F.
Get A QuoteYour boiler must be at the correct pressure for the hot water to circulate properly between the radiators, especially if they are on different floors. Generally, the ideal pressure is between 1 and 2 bars, but this may vary from boiler to boiler. Ask your heating engineer.

Get A QuoteYour boiler pressure may be too high because there is too much water in the system. This is of course assuming the pump is working to specification but it may be a good place to start. Turn off your boiler a few hours before you plan to do the job to allow it to cool down completely.

Get A QuoteWhile draining the water, keep your eye on the boiler's pressure gauge to track any changes that may occur. Bleed radiators to release airlocks Does bleeding radiators affect boiler pressure? Yes, if the problem is the air and water ratio inside of the system.
Get A QuoteIf the pressure gauge on your boiler indicates high pressure (above 2.75 bar), then you may need to bleed a radiator to bring the level down to around 1.5 bar. This can be tricky and, occasionally, dangerous; due to high water temperatures.
